Friday Letters

For the last couple of weeks, I've been reading others' Friday Letters posts. Today, I'm finally joining in and posting my own. Happy weekend everyone!

1) Dear Luke, I love you. This weekend while you work, I will be spring cleaning. When you finally get home on Saturday evening, you will not recognize our house. In a good way, promise! And all that luandry that's been sitting on our kitchen table? It will be folded and hung up. Swear. :) And thanks for mowing our yard this week. It looks fabulous and the puppies love it. You're the best husband/fur-baby-daddy we could ask for!

2) Dear Jules (aka mom), I cannot wait to go to NYC with you in 6 days! We will have so much fun going to Broadway shows, seeing the World Trade Center Memorial, walking through Central Park, eating at fabulous restaurants, treking over to Brooklyn so that I can tear up as I reminisce, and shopping til we drop. 5th Avenue, beware!!

3) Dear Work, you have been stressful the last few days, but SO worth it! I have felt very accomplished and proud of how well everything is going with the two of us. We are kickin' butt and taking names!

4) Dear Aubrey, You are buying a house. You are such a big girl! I'm so proud of you and the way you've worked so hard to make this happen. You absolutely deserve your precious little blue house and I can't wait to watch you go crazy as you decorate. And we're having a house warming party, STAT!

5) Dear Brookley (Brooklyn + Bentley), Y'all are a mess! Last night, you woke your mom and dad up multiple times just wimpering and you drove us crazy! Dad even took you to the bathroom TWICE. What did y'all hear outside last night that were bothering you so much? But no matter how frustrated we get with you, we can't get over how cute you are. You are buds; best friends for life. And this is exactly how we hoped it would be. :)

{And for your viewing pleasure...a pic of me taken by a client at our coffee meeting this morning. He posted it to Facebook. We discussed blogging. We're social media savvy, what can I say?!}

Hey It's OK Thursday

Hey, it's ok...

To have "scrunched" my hair for work every day for the last three weeks. 30 more minutes of sleep each morning > waking up early to straighten my hair.

To use Pinterest as a search engine as much as (if not more than) Google. "I'll Pinterest it!"

To still be trying to figure out the perfect tattoo. I've seriously been debating, drawing, and discussing this very permanent decision since I was 16. I want it to represent my marriage and the promise my husband and I made to each other on our wedding day. With/without picture? With/without words? Where to put it? I hope to someday figure this out.

To be in denial about packing even though I'm excited to move. For some reason I think all our crap will pack itself perfectly into the boxes I haven't purchased yet.

To be obsessed with/plan my Wednesday and Sunday evenings around Revenge and PanAm. Who doesn't love a show that keeps you on your toes?

To already be working on my Christmas list. It was actually started about a month ago, but I'm just now getting around to confessing this.

To continue daydreaming of the day I will get to move back to this city...

Thanks for sharing this video on your blog yesterday Stevie.
I'm slightly obsessed.

11 January 2011

One year ago today...

...I began my first day of work as an intern for CBS News in New York, New York.

I woke up extra early that morning and felt so extremely relieved to have warm clothes to wear to work on my first day. You see, the airlines had lost my luggage the night before and I had to go BACK to the airport at 11 p.m. the same day I arrived in New York to pick it up. What a day that had been... But anyway, back to January 11th...

I picked out a purple dress from Urban Outfitters and black tights with a gray floral pattern on them. I wore my brand new black leather slouchy boots, a black scarf, black leather gloves, and a black pea coat. I know, it was a lot of black, but I was trying to fit in! I was lucky to have another girl in my same BU in NY program to ride the subway with that morning, so I was pretty confident I'd find my way to 57th street. I took the 2/3 and hopped over to the 1 train. So far, so good.

I'll never forget the first time I stepped out of that subway car and walked up the steps to the streets of midtown. Columbus Circle. God, how I miss it. There were people everywhere. No one cared who I was or where I was headed. They all had their own agendas and every one of them was late, or so it seemed. I have never seen so many people walking at such a speed in so many different directions. My travel buddy and I happened to be a little early for our first day of internship (and overly anxious!), so of course, a cup of Starbucks was needed.

I was so nervous to walk into CBS News that morning. I remember standing across the street from the entrance, looking up at a huge picture of Katie Couric on the side of the building and reminding myself to breathe. After all, this was real and I was really about to do this! After my soon-to-be boss was called to confirm that I was allowed upstairs, I walked through the turnstile (which I would eventually get my own swipy tag for). I'll never forget that first trip up the elevator to the CBS Press Office on the 6th floor. I was so excited!

That morning I met the VP of Communications for CBS news, who was to be my immediate supervisor. I also met the publicists for 60 Minutes, 48 Hours, The Early Show, CBS Evening News, and the SVP of Communications, all of whose offices where in the same area as mine. Crazy stuff. I also met Mrs. Stephanie Walker, who to me at the time was Miss Stevie Bittner. My, how much we grow and change in just one short year! {This beautiful lady is now a married woman, but she interned with me at CBS News and this internship would not have been the same without her. My sweet friend, Faith, also interned with us and I'm so jealous of her life, as she continues to live in the Big Apple. I miss these girls!}

And so it began...the best semester of my life.

I learned so much that semester. I learned how to be a professional. I learned how to work in the media. My skin was made much tougher through my many experiences with people who didn't care who I was or where I was from, but rather yet, expected me to get the job done, no matter the circumstances. I grew a lot as a young woman that semester as well. I learned a lot about myself. I learned how tough I was and what resilience really is. I lived on my own, without Luke, without my family, without my friends. Yes, I made friends. Friends that I will share a common bond with forever! But this wasn't the case when I stepped off of the plane that first day in New York.

I made so many incredible memories that semester. I saw 8 Broadway shows. I perfected sitting in a cafe drinking wine with girlfriends for hours at a time. I ran the Brooklyn Bridge on a regular basis. I dominated the subway system. I shopped on Canal Street. I bought my wedding dress at Kleinfeld. I went to the top of the Empire State Building with my fiance and explored the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island with Ashley. My best college friends spent their spring break in New York with me, my best childhood friend visited, my sisters visited once, my mother visited twice. Nothing in this world will ever be able to steal away my love of that incredible city. I left a piece of my heart in New York.

I can't wait to get back there!!!

2011 = 12 Days Paid Vacation

I'm looking forward to 2011 for many reasons. Don't get me wrong, I'm not wishing December away by any means. I love this time of the year! But recently I've had an itch to travel and now's just not a good time. *sad face*

Since I just started a new job back in October, I've only accumulated 1 vacation day (you don't get vacay days for the first two months). Once 2011 hits, vacation days start over. SO, I'm anxious for 2011 to get here so I can book a couple of trips! Since Luke and I have picked a new wedding day, I need to save at least a week for our honeymoon. But I want to go back to New York something terrible and my sweet friend Christine will be living on the east coast all next spring. You better believe I'll be making a trip to stay with her and travel into the city! Luke and I also want to take a trip this next spring with Jay and Morgan (Luke's bf and his wife) to San Diego to visit a navy seal friend of ours that is stationed there. So many trips to plan!

Now is the time to be strategic. I cannot waste any vacation days and I need to not spend any money on unnecessary items. I have to start saving my money and looking for cheap plane tickets. Do you know of any special ways to find cheap flights?? If you do, please share! Because I miss this place dearly...

What If

There is an apartment for rent in New York. Queens, to be more specific. $750 per month, fully furnished. Yup, it's there.

What if I rented it? What if? I probably wouldn't tell you when I was leaving; I'd just go. I think all of my money would be gone with the one-way, last minute plane ticket, but I don't care. I just want to go...

*Snaps back to reality*

I'm so incredibly tired of this monotonous routine I'm in.

:(

{It's my blog and I can cry if I want to}
